Going yellow! Supporting National Recycling Week 2012

Are aerosol cans really recyclable? How do milk bottles get turned into fleeces?

National Recycling Week (NRW) is an established and highly regarded annual education and behavior change campaign that was founded by Planet Ark in 1996. NRW aims to unravel the myths of recycling and improve the environmental benefits of kerbside, industrial and community recycling programs.

EnviroCom is working in partnership with a number of Councils to help promote National Recycling Week 2012.  Logan City Council is running a ‘Design an Advert’ competition for all primary schools.  Students are being asked to get creative for a good cause and promote correct recycling habits.

Southern Downs Regional Council are hosting their first ever ‘Swap Party’ where residents are being encouraged to join the party and ‘swap ‘till they drop by bringing good quality items to exchange for other items.

Recycling has a number of environmental benefits such as preserving natural resources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.  Recycling also reduces the volume of waste ending up at landfill.

Recyclable materials are given a new lease of life, being remanufactured into a range of products from drainage pipes and plant pots; to carpets, bikes and jumpers!
